GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's unified indirect tax that replaced multiple state and central taxes in July 2017. It follows a dual structure: CGST (Central GST) goes to the central government and SGST (State GST) goes to the state government for intra-state transactions. For inter-state transactions, IGST (Integrated GST) is levied and later distributed between centre and state. India has 4 main GST rates: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, plus a 0% category for essential goods.
How do I add GST to a price?+
To add GST: Total Price = Base Price × (1 + GST Rate/100). For example, if base price is ₹10,000 and GST rate is 18%, total = ₹10,000 × 1.18 = ₹11,800. GST amount = ₹1,800. For intra-state: CGST = ₹900 (9%) + SGST = ₹900 (9%). Use our calculator above to compute any amount instantly.
How do I remove GST from an MRP price?+
To remove GST from an MRP: Base Price = MRP / (1 + GST Rate/100). For ₹11,800 MRP at 18% GST: Base = ₹11,800 / 1.18 = ₹10,000. GST amount = ₹11,800 - ₹10,000 = ₹1,800. Select "Remove GST" mode in our calculator and enter the MRP to get the base price instantly.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?+
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are both charged on intra-state (within same state) transactions, each at half the total GST rate. IGST (Integrated GST) is charged on inter-state transactions at the full GST rate and is later split between centre and state. For example, an 18% GST intra-state transaction has 9% CGST + 9% SGST. The same transaction inter-state has 18% IGST.
